A rare escape from site

Author: Disco-Si | Date: 04-08-2009

Whilst the rest of the media team think im catching up on some much needed sleep, i've snuck off site on a secret mission so I wanted to take the opportunity to thank them all for everything they have done - its likely to get teary writing this blog!

So to Tesco's in Orpington I went! It was quite a sight - almost every other till had leaders with KIJ ID's, neckers and bags stocking up on food essentials!

Back to the team...for the past week a team made up of Scouts and Guides from across the UK have been keeping this website up-to-date, writing Pulse the daily newspaper, running the web cafe, producing videos and providing opportunities for all participants at KIJ to get involved with creating their own media. Now if you thought their talents ended there you would be wrong - we've also inadventantly become a cheesy dance troop with regular performances in the media office and 'Explorer Zone'.

Each day I potter over the media office around 7am to find team members eager to get started for the day - even despite the fact our opening hours are 9am - 6pm - you'll still often find us in the office at 12am the next morning! The ideas, features and services provided have all come from suggestions made by our brilliant team! Everyday participants run to the media office to be first to answer the daily riddle. The 'Messages from home' has quickly filled and we've watched countless people outside the office on the webcam talking to their friends and families. Hopefully you've enjoyed the content so far and will keep checking back over the next few days for the final installments.

It's pretty much impossible to express my thanks enough to these guys who have all been stars and I'm so proud of them all...

Dan, Clare, Ella, Kirsty, Emma, Ben, Charlie, Becki, Becki Media, Iain, Heather, Maddie, Caroline and the various honary media members! The KIJ 09 Media Team!

As anticipated I'm now in tears - time to make my way back to site!

Si :)

Monday-ness :)

Author: Kirsty Thorpe | Date: 03-08-2009

Happy Monday Morning! :)

Its 8.14am and already the Media Centre is busy, busy, busy! We're folding hundreds of copies of the Pulse and sorting out all the messages we've recieved to put on our board (We are going to take a photo of it soon!)

Today is another day of activities and fun!Tolerance Subcamp are on their Water Activities Day out and everyone else is on site. Environment Subcamp are having their Subcamp Day, so at this moment in time they will all be eating breakfast together as one big group!

Yesterday, we had the first 3 Young People on site finish their Global Explorer KIJ Award, to do this they had to complete many different activities in different areas of the site including: The media centre, The global development Village and also allowing them to talk to other Scouts from all over the world! It was a great acheivement and hopefully lots more young people will be finishing theirs today.

I was lucky enough to go out on a photography task last night, meaning I got  to talk to young people from all over the country and all over the world. It was really nice to meet them and to get to talk to them, and it was so amazing, so I know that the Participants are going to have an amazing  and unique time!! :)

Anyway, thats really all there is to say at the moment (And I haven't had breakfast yet!)

Keep sending in your messages for people on site, we are reading, printing and displaying every single one!

Right, food time,

Kirsty :)

Monday morning... *sings*

Author: Becki Mackenzie | Date: 03-08-2009

Hey everyone!!! Kirsty's now famous on the internet, so thanks for all the posts you've been sending her and the rest of us. We've actually now put up a huge message board in the internet café for all the participants to read the messages flooding in from home!

So, the jamboree, most of the team have been here since Monday, only it really doesn't feel like we've been here a week! Knowledge are down on 'It's a knockout', so we're prepared for some very wet scouts and guides to head back up here later. Meanwhile, Environment are having their sub camp day, with Chip and the rest of the team dressed up as Victorians! Their costumes are so impressive!

Tolerance are off on their water activities day, (make sure you check out Knowledges pictures from yesterday!) which I'm actually really jealous about, it looked so exciting! Members of the media team are off taking photos and interviewing people, whilst a few have popped out shopping to get the basic necessitities (sweets, electricals, cola....), the typical teenage media needs!

The media team have just had a very entertaining morning, but more about that soon! You'll be sorry if you hadn't watched the webcam around 11am!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful time back at home, I'm off to upload some more photos!

Becki
