When is KIJ?

30th July to 6th August 2009

Where is KIJ?

KIJ 09 is being held at 'The Shaws' campsite in Cudham, near Sevenoaks, Kent in the UK. Campsite address and Google Map.

Who is it for?

KIJ is a Jamboree for Scouts and Guides aged 10-18 years old.

In UK Scouting this crosses two sections, Scouts (10-14) and Explorers (14-18 years old) with appropriate activities provided for both.

How much does KIJ cost?

The young person participant fee is £125. The fee for accompanying leaders is £35.

Service team members go free.

We have leaders who can only come for a few days do they have to pay the full fee?

Leaders who can only attend for a few days can pay a day rate of £5 per day. Please note this clearly when completing the booking form.

What does the fee include?

The fee includes all the activities, entertainment and camping, but excludes food and camping equipment.

Can I extend my booking?

If you have made a booking for a certain number, but have additional participants/leaders who would like to come, simply make re-complete the booking form for the additional numbers, clearly marking the form that it is in addition to the original booking.

Send it complete with the appropriate payment and the admin team will extend your booking.

The deadline for extending a booking is the 1st May 2009

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring your own camping equipment so that you can camp and cook as a self sufficient unit/group. Toilet blocks will be available.

Where possible, we will try our best to provide equipment for units coming from abroad providing plenty of notice is given.

How big will my site be?

As with most Jamborees, space has to be limited to allow everyone to fit in a sensible camping area. We are allocating roughly 10sq meters per person. This space includes your tents and communal areas - such as cooking and dining space.

Can we bring a marquee?

You will have the space per person allocated as above (10sq meters). For larger groups it will probably make sense to use a marquee proportional to the number of participants. If you only have a few people, a dinning shelter may make a better use of your space. Whatever you bring, please ensure it will fit within your allocated area.

Will KIJ be cancelled due to Swine Flu?

The Scout Association has released advice on Swine Flu which can be found here:  KIJ 09- Swine Flu

http://scouts.org.uk/noticeboard_view.php?noticeboard_id=117

In line with Scout Association and Government advice the event will proceed as planned.

The onsite first aid team will monitor any illness which may occur while onsite taking the appropriate action to prevent such illness spreading and look after the affected participants until they can be returned home.

Hygiene will be a priority and the importance of good hygiene will be impressed upon all participants and staff. Anti-bacterial gel points will be situated around the site and participants will be encouraged to regularly wash their hands.

The local hospital is aware of the camp and the first aid team will be working with the local authority as required.
