Participant blogsRead the participants own Experiences of KIJ 09! Friends from all over the globeAuthor: simoncorrigan | Date: 04-08-2009 It's been great at KIJ and I've meet loads of new friends from all over the Globe! The Camp and the food has been great as-well, apart from the pot washing! I've also been doing activities in the activities area. I've been on the go karts, which were cool! Myself and 9th Deal, Ash have been to our water activities day, where we did canoeing and raft building. The raft that my team had made had been christened the 'titanic 2' by the instructor who helped it us put the raft in the water, but our boat was cursed by the name 'titanic 2' and it sank just like the original! And in canoeing I capsized one and then the instructors sank me seven times by driving the nose of their canoe on to the back off mine. But I had justice when they found out that my canoe was partly made out of lead so it was so heavy to lift back up out off the water! KIJ has been wicked! All the fun started the day after we got here, my Scout Group 1st St Lawrence went to Chatham Dockyard we all wandered of in little groups and had a look at all the fascinating things there. I went with my best friend Natalie and one of my leaders Sasha, we looked at pretty much everything and I had to touch everything I saw. At the end we all got together again and went to a talk about rope and how it was made, then we went in to an air raid shelter and listened to the sounds of bombs and saw all the rations they had to survive on when this was going on. A bit further into the week we went on a trip to Faversham for a water day. I only got to do two activities rafting and kayaking, but they were fun. My favorite activity has to be kayaking because I had never done it before, I missed out on doing bell boating because I wanted to stay on the kayak. Right at the end when I was about to get out of my boat one of the leaders tipped over my boat and I got soaked! The day after that was its a knock out. At the beginning it was all dry activities and at the end it was all foam and water activities which we managed to win one of. By the end every one was happy and wet. 26th MedwayAuthor: Dan, Hannah and Adam :) | Date: 04-08-2009 Hello! We are the from the 26th Medway Explorer Unit based in Chatham, Kent. This is our first Jamboree as a whole group and we are thoroughly enjoying it. We would to share with you some of our highlights of KIJ. Saturday started very early with a leaving time of 07.45, being a ridiculous time as we never normally wake up until around 11.00, therefore making us all very tired on the coach drive there. The weather did not stay good at all for us as, it decided to rain just after we had gone in the sea! On Sunday we took a journey off-site to Faversham to participate in the water activities which were rafting, kayaking and bell-boating; where we succeeded in building the raft in the quickest time and getting to the furthest point in the quickest time. We also built the raft that, alone, did not break once. Kayaking was also very entertaining with nearly our whole group capsizing on at least one occasion. Monday was probably the most active day for the group as we competed in the 'It's a Knockout' competition. Our team got off to a good start, winning the first two events and coming second in the next two. We started to lose our great lead, so we just went out in the afternoon to have fun and get amazingly soaked. Not only with water, but with bubbles. The only regret for the majority of the group was not putting on enough sun-tan lotion; hence the red faces. The other competition within the entire campsite has been the voting for the sub-camp gateways. We have spent many, probably all, of our contract minutes ringing family members and friends at home, as well as a radio station, just to get the few vital votes that could make all the difference. Overall, KIJ so far, has been an epic and memorable experience with the energetic days and the sleepless nights, and has, in no way, put us off for the many to come. We hope the remaining couple of days will be just as enjoyable as the week so far. | ![]() |
